MTV Roadies- Bitchy Girl Dominance
The MTV Roadies saga continues…
So, yesterday we had yet another episode of MTV Roadies. Yesterday’s episode was quite a let-down especially with regards to the vote-out. It was so predictable that it was not in keeping with the tradition of the Roadies vote-out. I kept on waiting for some twist to appear at the end, but to my disappointment, absolutely nothing happened.
In this Roadies episode, the guys seem to be playing a totally passive role. The girls are adding all the spice, while the guys seem to be watching in the background with a completely lost look on their faces. I don’t think you would even notice if the guys were taken off the show, but the girls with their vicious rivalry keep you hooked onto the show.
While watching yesterday’s episode, I couldn’t help typecasting the roadies into particular movie slot roles. Imagine for a second that you are watching a female oriented American teen college movie. All the girls in this show fit so easily into the various roles that it becomes quite entertaining to institute a comparison. How would it go? Let’s see…
1) Shambavi- So easily the vamp of the movie. Good looking but so obviously the bitchy and twisted person who is terribly insecure to boot. Thinks no end of her good looks and feels that people who are not blessed with similar good looks ‘should have the sense to maintain a low profile so as not to attract attention to their ugliness’. She actually said that on the show! I could hardly believe that anyone could be so insensitive and oblivious to the image they were cutting while airing such views on television. I am sure she will be soon offered a negative role in one of Ekta Kapoor’s serials. J
2) Anmol- The female friend of the vamp. Has a bit more sense but is also more whiny and sarcastic. Has the potential to be good, but is self-absorbed to the extent of thinking that she stands on a pedestal above the others. If this were actually a movie, most probably she would have reverted to the good side by the end, but on Roadies it seems a bit unlikely.
3) Sonel, Prabhjot and Ankita- Unlike the movie heroines, they are not snow white characters (impossible for anyone to be pure and innocent on Roadies, after all), but fall into the grey range. None of them have stunning good looks, but they are all potentially attractive. All of them are more grounded and good at heart, but display bursts of bitchiness as a result of being provoked by the vamps.
The guys who remain in roadies do not fit into any typecast. They are more like props or puppets that one can play around with. No personality at all, though they did seem promising earlier in the show (especially Ashutosh, even though at present he seems to have become domesticated-J ). As of now, they have been thoroughly over-shadowed by the girls.
I am waiting to see if the guys whet our curiosity in the next episode, at least…..
