MTV Roadies - adventure or farce …Part II
To continue with the Roadies topic, what I really found scary about the auditions was the thinking process of the college going students. Of course, most of it was an act to impress the judges but why do these youngsters feel that such an amoral attitude is impressive? During most of the auditions, you felt as if you had landed in some weird American college television show where guys and girls flaunt their sexual prowess and utter lack of loyalty and sensitivity. Now that the program is underway, you get to see profane cases of back-stabbing by the participants. In fact, they seem to revel in it. Makes one feel that they have absorbed totally wrong notions of what survival is all about.
You know, another facet of the auditions was the personal interviews by Raghu and Nikhil Chinappa. In the beginning, Raghu seemed to be very clever with his analysis but later on, I think, he got carried away by his own role as the self-proclaimed ‘God’ of the show and started passing judgments that were a little difficult to swallow. As for Nikhil Chinappa, I really like his cheeky attitude in MTV Super Select but here he comes across as condescending and moody. While watching the auditions, I had to constantly remind myself that these were masks they had put on for the show and did not resemble their real personas.
On a lighter note, during one of the episodes the contestants had to go through a strip-sms act. The girls displayed their silliness to the hilt here. I found it difficult to believe that college going students would have no idea about who the current president of
